ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. —
The state Cannabis Control Division identified a cannabis flower testing positive for a prohibited pesticide.
The products were sold by WH Agriculture, LLC DBA Maggie's Farm. Those affected products were sold between March 6 and Aug. 1 this year, according to the New Mexico Cannabis Control Division.
The Maggie's Farm products were sold at several R. Greenleaf, Loud Cloud, and Everest dispensary stores. Cities listed with impacted stores include Albuquerque, Alamogordo, Carlsbad, Los Lunas, Sunland Park, Belen and Las Vegas, New Mexico.
The state CCD has not received a report regarding any health-related complaints related to the recall. Another dispensary business associated with the recalled cannabis product is House of Blaze. Afton Frischmann, owner of House of Blaze, said she took it off the shelves immediately.
"I identified every customer that had purchased that particular bar code of that product, and I did make phone calls to them and let them know. I put a note on the accounts that I couldn't get ahold of to let them know if they come back," Frischmann said. "This is the first time I've ever had to do that. We opened exactly a year ago, so I haven't had any other issues, this was the first time I had to deal with it."
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, pesticides are often applied to crops or garden plants. While this particular one is not deadly, high doses of it can cause dizziness, headache, nausea and other side effects.
Frischmann said they will be reimbursed by the vendor. She said her business will wait to get a certificate of analysis before buying from vendors to ensure this doesn't happen again.
"Our number one goal is to provide quality product. We don't want to put anything out there that's illegal, that's not up to par for customers cause that's the main goal," Frischmann said.
